Meet Chris and Michelle Dodt!
The Dodt family joined Hotondo Homes 20 years ago and have become a valuable member of our family. Let’s take a look back and see how life for Chris and Michelle has changed over their two decades within the network.
For Chris Dodt, building was always a fascination. As a child, he loved watching build projects start from nothing, turning into a skeleton, then a building and eventually a family home. Once he was able to begin working, his weekends and school holidays were spent on job sites until he gained his first apprenticeship in carpentry at 15 years old.
Eventually Chris began subcontracting and then became a small-time builder working on renovations, extensions and even a few homes. While he loved being on the tools, it became extremely demanding and time-consuming.
“I would work ten hours as a chippy then go home to the office and work until all hours of the night, go to bed and do it all again the next day,” Chris said.
In 1989, he tied the knot with wife Michelle and the duo started their own family. They were always committed to showing their three beautiful children Mack, Nick and Michaela exactly how far hard work and determination could take you.
In 1997, Chris and Michelle came across Hotondo and after careful consideration decided to join the network. Hotondo offered the plans, pricing and vision – it was an offer they could not look past.
“It was a very different Hotondo to what we have today,” Chris recalled. “In the first six months of joining we began to wonder what on earth we had signed up for! But our first conference in Coffs Harbour left us feeling pumped! After that even managed to secure three appointments over the phone on the way home which all turned into contracts.”
20 years later, Chris and Michelle remain a beloved part of the Hotondo Homes family and their business in Gympie has grown significantly. They were even recognised as the National Professional Builder of the Year in 2003 and 2009, and they both remain highly active in the business.
“Michelle now lives and breathes Hotondo! She controls the overall system and manages the entire Gympie office,” Chris said.
“I on the other hand went from a nail bag chippy doing five jobs a year to the Director of a large business with seven team members, around 70 contractors and managing up to 20 jobs at a time.”
While the pair saw many benefits in being part of Hotondo Homes, it was the strong branding and opportunity to transition from a tradesman to business owner that drove them towards success. In joining the network the team have also made life-long friendships with fellow franchisees across the nation.
Though time has passed, Chris’ passion for building remains as strong as ever!
“I get a real buzz from handing over a new home to a client. Being a part of their building journey, in many cases taking their idea of a ‘dream home’ and turning it into a reality, is truly incredible. I really love what I do.”
While it has been a long 20 years, Hotondo Gympie continues to flourish, as does Chris and Michelle’s passion and dedication to their work.
“We believe in the Hotondo system and we’ve seen what you can achieve within it. We’ve met some amazing people within the network and have learnt so much from each and every one of them!”
We look forward to many more years with the Dodt family!
